per personThe Rio Sucuri (Sucuri River) is considered one of the rivers with the most crystal-clear waters in the entire world, surpassing in transparency even the famous waters of the Bahamas. This transparency has a concrete cause: the amount of dissolved limestone in the water, which filters out suspended particles and keeps the river clean, especially under sunlight.
The result is easy to understand once you are in the water. Since the depth never exceeds 3 meters, you see the riverbed the whole time, with the underwater vegetation and the fish in plain view. It is a calm snorkeling tour, made for taking it all in.
Contrary to what many people imagine, the river was not named for being home to sucuri snakes (anacondas) in its waters. The attraction was named in 1975, when a visitor flew over the site and noticed that the shape of the river, seen from above, resembled a giant snake. Because of the total transparency of the water, the dark-green vegetation at the bottom seemed to form the markings of an anaconda.
This is a detail that changes the experience for those who tour. As you pass over the carpet of underwater vegetation and recall the origin of the name, you connect what you are seeing with the history of the place. The snorkeling tour takes place along 1,500 meters of river, from the main deck to the point where the Sucuri meets the Rio Formoso (Formoso River).
📍 20.1 km from downtown Bonito · ⏱ about 2 hours in the water · Difficulty: easy
The operation begins at the headquarters of Fazenda São Geraldo and follows a simple sequence.
At the headquarters, visitors receive a brief training session to get familiar with the equipment: snorkel mask, wetsuit and life jacket. The wetsuit and the life jacket are already included, so you do not need to bring anything special for the water.
From the headquarters to the water entry point, you walk an interpretive trail of 400 meters through the forest. During the walk you can observe the main springs that feed the river all the way to the deck where the snorkeling tour begins.
The descent follows the gentle current for about 1,500 meters. Two guides accompany the group the whole time: one tours in the water beside the visitors and the other follows in the support boat, just a few meters away, ready to help anyone who gets tired or wants to leave the water. Those who prefer can do part of the route aboard the boat. At the end, where the Sucuri meets the Rio Formoso, the group returns to the farm headquarters.

"We were assisted by the guide Mateus, who explained everything calmly and carefully. He explained the farm's activities and also the tour. The touritself is incredible, natural beauty and very well cared for. Every care was taken so that we could do everything at our own pace. During the tour, one of our companions had difficulty and the tour guide helped us a lot."
