Abismo Anhumas
Duration3 hrs
The name Abismo usually makes tourists imagine an active rope descent, with physical effort and adrenaline. That is not the case. The descent is 72 meters by an assisted lift system — you are suspended, safe, without pulling anything.
When you reach the bottom, you find an underground lake with water so transparent that you can see the limestone cones several meters deep. The main activity is snorkeling: with a life jacket, mask, and snorkel, snorkeling among stalactites and stalagmites in almost total silence. The difficulty is easy and the minimum age is 8.

During the roughly 5-minute descent, the lift system makes a constant mechanical noise — you feel the movement, see the outside light disappear, and notice the air temperature change. When you reach the bottom, the sound stops.
What remains is the echo of the water hitting the limestone walls and your own breathing inside the mask. The water keeps a constant temperature, but the thermal perception changes because the cave air is different from the outside air. It is in this contrast that the experience becomes immersive: the body stops worrying about effort and the eyes take command.
The lake is up to 80 meters deep — deeper than the descent itself — and the transparency of the water lets you see the submerged limestone formations without needing to dive.
Snorkeling with a life jacket, you move your arms slowly and follow the guide along the marked route. The operation is certified and vertical technique monitors are present at every stage, from the descent to the snorkeling.

The day before the tour is reserved for the mandatory checkpoint, at the central office, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
At the checkpoint, you sign the Porto Seguro insurance, try on the neoprene suit, and receive the final instructions. The exact tour time is defined at this moment, because the logistics vary according to the number of visitors, children, and dives scheduled for the same day.
Note: We do not guarantee or sell a time in advance, because variations in Pax, Chd, dives, and the total number of tourists influence the logistics.
The vertical descent is done in pairs for safety reasons — if you booked alone, you may be paired with another tourist or with a monitor, depending on the day's operation. No one photographs the vertical section, either on the way down or on the way up. This rule belongs to the attraction and cannot be changed by the intermediary agency.
Upon reaching the bottom, the group boards a boat across the lake and then goes snorkeling with a life jacket, mask, and snorkel. The route is predefined and accompanied by monitors who guide body positioning in the water.
The ascent follows the same assisted lift system. We take a jacket for the moment when we return to the outside air — the thermal difference is noticeable.

This tour works well for those who want to see something out of the ordinary without demanding anything from the body. Families with children aged 8 and up, people with reduced mobility — the attraction has an adapted structure — and those who simply are not interested in radical activities, but do not want to leave Bonito without seeing the inside of the cave. The assisted descent is accessible and the snorkeling is done with a life jacket, with no need to know how to swim.
We have accompanied groups for years and have seen up close who is moved by this silence. Tourists looking for living geology and a different perspective of the city will find it here. It is not a tour with a lot of movement — it lasts around 3 hours in total, with most of the time spent snorkeling or in the boat.
The neoprene suit is provided on site, but bring swimwear to wear underneath. You can take a camera, as long as it is waterproof or a GoPro — Bonitour offers rentals.
Anyone who is afraid of heights or enclosed spaces should evaluate: the descent is mechanical and safe, but the cave is enclosed and the depth is real. We recommend bringing a jacket, avoiding alcoholic drinks the night before, and telling the consultant about any discomfort with water.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────
It is not mandatory. The life jacket keeps you on the surface and the monitors accompany the group the entire time. Even so, it is worth telling the consultant if you have any discomfort with water.
No. It is an assisted lift system — you are suspended in certified equipment and descend mechanically. There is no physical effort and the difficulty is classified as easy.
The checkpoint is for signing the insurance, trying on the neoprene suit, and defining the exact tour time. The logistics depend on the total number of visitors and activities scheduled for the same day — that is why we do not sell a time in advance.
The minimum age is 8. Below that age, participation is not allowed. Consult our specialists to indicate an alternative suitable for the family's profile.
